We are pleased to welcome back Simon Keegan (4th Dan) and Bushinkai to Van Dang Martial Arts.
Simon Keegan (4th Dan Renshi) is Bushinkai’s chief instructor and pioneer of the Bushinkai Method (Hakuda Kempo Toshu Jutsu).
About Toshu Jutsu:
Toshu Jutsu is a system of self defence, intelligently taught as a scientific method of protection.
Toshu Jutsu was developed in the island of Okinawa between 1685 and 1920. Originally the Okinawan fighting arts (Uchinadi) drew on Muay Boran (ancient Muay Thai) techniques termed Ti-gwa. Toshu Jutsu (literally Chinese hand techniques) then emerged, influenced by Chinese Kung Fu styles including Hsin-I Quan.
In the 1800s Toshu Jutsu (or Toshukuken) became influenced by Japanese styles such as Jigen Ryu andHakuda Kempo (also called Taku or Baida)
By 1850 Okinawan Toshu Jutsu was influenced by Tiger Boxing, Lion Boxing and Crane Boxing skills from China, Vietnam, Korea and Taiwan and together with the skills already developed from Okinawan, Japanese and Thai schools, the first schools of Karate Jutsu (Toshu Jutsu) emerged
In the 1920s-1950s the old ways of Toshu Jutsu and Karate Jutsu were largely forgotten, as modern arts like Karate-do and Taekwondo became popular throughout the world.
Hakuda Kempo Toshu Jutsu was developed into its present system by Simon Keegan (4th Dan Renshi), a third-generation martial artist who holds black belt grades in Karate Jutsu, Karatedo, Nihon-den Jujutsu and Taiji Quan.
